It’s been a few weeks since I got my diagnosis back from the doctor. It’s kinda strange how such a small thing can bring on such life changing events. This obviously wasn't something I had planned or foreseen, and that's where the title comes from. My life has been diverted to another path for now.

I just had my second and final surgery and am now doing my best to recover so I can start the radiation therapy. I started this blog as a suggestion by my mom; she said I should start a journal, that it might help me. As a kid I always kept a journal up to my first year of college, but instead of going back to the trusty pen and paper I decided to “upgrade” to the modern day equivalent; this blog.

I guess I was right in my last post, I never did take have time to make a post before my first radiation session. But then again, there wasn't much to write about, except me resting, sleeping, and eating dieting, and going through all the usual daily motions.

So, as the title indicates, yesterday I had my first radiation session. It was pretty plain, no big bangs of flashes. I sat somewhat upright in a chair with only my right breast exposed. The doctors then left the room and helped me through that short burst of radioactive rays.  It felt weird sitting there, all alone. I actually didn't notice anything, there were four short bursts, at least thats what they told me.

Up to now I’ve never had any problems with my breasts, I was actually quite satisfied with them, and I assumed they were with me. But recently this “mutual friendship” came to an abrupt halt when I found out that my right breast had been building up hatred for me, which by now had bubbled over into loathing.

I’ll start at the beginning…a couple of weeks ago (end of July) I found a lump in my right breast that wasn’t there before. At first I dismissed it, I was too busy with “life”; the kids had vacation and the house needed looking after. Luckily (in retrospect) for me my husband noticed it as well, although, as with all things, he noticed it a couple days later (changes to the house and my wardrobe take a while to get noticed). He pressed me to make a doctors appointment, and, after he said he would take a day off to watch after the kids, I agreed. So I called and made an appointment with my doctor the next morning.
