Hi,

My mom was recently diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer. I feel like I am not getting all the info because I am in California and my mom lives in another state. Here's our story....

My moms tumor was in her chest wall, and when they initially tried to biopsy her the results came back inconclusive. They then decided to remove the tumor. A few days later they contacted my mom and asked her to come by. Once there they informed her that she had a stage 3 tumor (rapid growth breast cancer). They then decided to move forward and remove both her breast, that was last week. Now we are waiting to hear if it spread to her lymph nodes. The point i'm struggling with is the period between discovering the tumor and its removal (almost 4 months), How fast do tumors spread?? Would it have been less worse if they had removed my moms tumor at the beginning?

There just seems to be a lack of communication between us and the doctors, and I can't find enough information anywhere else on stage 3 breast cancer (relating to the chest wall). So my second question is: what does it mean, is it likely that the cancer has already spread to the lymph nodes?

Any feedback is greatly appreciated!!

depending on the type of tumor it can grow either fast or slow. I've read stories on the internet of tumors doubling in size in a month, while others barely grow over a period of 20 years. Its hard to say whether it would have been different if your mom was operated earlier. This is also a major annoyance for me, the speed at which doctors act sometimes. Also, you can't predict whether cancer has spread to the lymph nodes or not, it again depends on the type of cancer and whether it is mobile or not. I'm not an expert on this so don't take my word for it, maybe someone else will come by with a better answer. Keep me posted though! take care!!
