Hi, I've had a mammogram come back abnormal, twice, and now the radiologist has ordered an ultrasound to examin the area in question. How reliable is the ultrasound? I mean, if the ultrasound said it was fine; how sure would they be that it is fine?

I don't think that an ultrasound is a defenite determinent for breast cancer. I've read on different websites that the only way doctors can be 100% that a bump is not cancer is by a needle biopsy/operation. The ultrasound is mainly used when women have breasts that are too dense to analyze through mammograms. It might not be something to worry about, the doctors might just want to double check a blur on a mammogram...keep me posted!

I think that if you are unsure about the results you should also get a second opinion. If that opinion is the same you should be safe.
