Cervical cancer is one of the few cancers we have the power to prevent — yet thousands of women still die for want of a simple screening test. PinkRibbon International is raising up to US$750,000 to gift an award that helps bring HPV self-collection screening to the women in Indonesia who need it most.
Cervical cancer is one of the few cancers that can be prevented through early detection and vaccination. Yet thousands of women continue to die unnecessarily because they lack access to screening and timely treatment. The science is settled; the gap is reach.
PinkRibbon International is launching The Gift of Prevention — a global campaign to establish the End Cervical Cancer: The PinkRibbon International Award Fund. The award is intended to help implement an evidence-based cervical cancer prevention programme that expands HPV self-collection testing in under-resourced areas of Indonesia, improves follow-up care, and strengthens the capacity of local healthcare providers over a two-year period.
The prevention programme this award is intended to support is led by The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. Its Principal Investigator, Mila Pontremoli Salcedo, M.D. (Assistant Professor of Gynecologic Oncology and Reproductive Medicine), and her team aim to increase cervical cancer screening through HPV self-collection testing in Indonesia’s under-resourced areas.
