Women First: Community Cancer Prevention & Care Initiative

PinkRibbon International in collaboration with Tata Medical Center, Kolkata

Women in underserved regions continue to face delays in breast and cervical cancer detection, limited screening access, and almost no palliative support. PinkRibbon International and Tata Medical Center aim to transform this through a community-based initiative focused on prevention, early detection, and compassionate care for women’s cancers.

Our Mission

To empower communities to prevent cancer, detect disease early, and ensure timely referral and supportive care—especially for the most underserved and vulnerable women.

Goals

1. Prevent & Detect Breast and Cervical Cancer

• Screening in community settings
• Local education & prevention awareness
• Identification and referral of women with precancers and cancers

2. Improve Access to Palliative Support

• Identification of women with palliative needs
• Referral pathways to accredited institutions

3. Build Local Healthcare Capacity

• Train nurses, doctors, social workers & psychologists
• Certification by Tata Medical Center
• Mentorship and monitoring

Why Now

• Breast & cervical cancers are the most preventable women’s cancers.
• Early detection drastically improves survival.
• Women in rural and low-income environments often present too late.
• Palliative care remains inaccessible for most women in India.

Community Methodology

• Partner with women’s groups & NGOs
• Recruit community volunteers
• Deliver screening camps
• Establish referral pathways to hospitals
• Conduct 6-month learning reviews
• Publish and disseminate findings

Expected Annual Impact

• 5,000+ women screened
• 300–600 referred for diagnostic evaluation
• 300 patients identified for supportive/palliative care
• 50 healthcare providers trained and certified
• Annual data published and shared internationally
